IS SNYDER LOOKING TO TAKE THE COOKE OUT OF STADIUM NAME?

The Redskins "have changed their letterhead to refer
to" Jack Kent Cooke Stadium as Redskins Stadium, according
to Mark Maske of the WASHINGTON POST. An anonymous
spokesperson for Owner Daniel Snyder said that the "shift
may be a precursor to the sale of the naming rights," but
Cooke's name "has not been removed" from the stadium. The
spokesperson: "The name Redskins Stadium has been used, but
there's no systematic effort to take Cooke's name off the
stadium." The spokesperson, on whether naming rights could
be sold in time for the '99 season: "Anything is possible,
but nothing is on the front burner" (WASHINGTON POST, 7/30).
