TRAIL BLAZERS PREPARING LIKE IT'S 1999: TEAM BRACES FOR Y2K

Blazers Dir of Information/Technology John Walker
"began in earnest the club's formal project ensuring
compliance" with Y2K and "safeguarding against breakdown" of
the Rose Garden's computer systems 18 months ago, according
to Kerry Eggers of the Portland OREGONIAN, who examined the
team's efforts to prevent Y2K bugs at the Rose Garden. Y2K
project leader Chris Kanoff: "It is primarily an aggressive
filing job on my part. It is accepting from vendors their
compliance reports, pushing that toward management and
making sure everything is taken care of." Walker did not
reveal the cost of the project, but said, "We have probably
put in two man-years total to becoming compliant." Walker:
"[Kanoff] and his staff have gone through every system and
every application program we have purchased and assured each
are up to compliance. ... The main concern for us is
(ensuring) the revenue stream, that we can put on the event
and handle activities associated with it." The project is
scheduled to be completed by September 30 (OREGONIAN, 7/28).
