ADIDAS READY TO EXPAND HEADQUARTERS IN PORTLAND

adidas America "has significantly expanded plans for
its new headquarters in North Portland," according to Jeff
Manning of the Portland OREGONIAN. In enlarging its plans,
adidas "intends to build two office buildings, a 'sports
pavilion' and a parking garage." Company officials predict
"as many as 1,000 employees will move into the first phase
of the headquarters when it opens in the first quarter of
2001." In the "longer term, two additional buildings could
be built, and an existing structure could be acquired and
renovated to provide space for as many as 2,000 workers."
adidas spokesperson John Fread, on the design changes: "We
wanted to design in as much flexibility as possible so that
we don't have to go back and do it again" (OREGONIAN, 7/15).
