AFTER DISPUTE, MEDIAONE REACHES DEAL W/FSW FOR DODGERS GAMES

MediaOne "struck a deal earlier this week" with Fox
Sports West, (FSW) allowing the cable operator to "receive
the expanded Dodgers slate on the Fox Sports West 2 (FSW2)
channel," according to Cynthia Littleton of DAILY VARIETY.
FSW had begun "blacking out those games" July 6 after
MediaOne "balked at Fox's surcharge for delivering an
additional 40 Dodgers telecasts" this season, on top of the
40 games FSW2 delivered last season. Details of FSW's deal
with MediaOne "were not disclosed," but one source said that
MediaOne "acquiesced to the surcharge -- believed to be
about" $.15 per subscriber -- "after fielding complaints
about the blackouts from subscribers." Another operator,
Charter Communications, "was expected to resume full" FSW
MLB coverage by Monday (DAILY VARIETY, 7/14). In L.A.,
Larry Stewart noted that the dispute "also threatened" to
take Angels telecasts off FSW in MediaOne homes, but that
"also has been settled" (L.A. TIMES, 7/13).
