NFL FILES SUIT AGAINST COORS FOR PLAYERS PROMOTION

The NFL filed suit against Coors Brewing Co. on Friday
saying the "company's effort to promote Coors Light as the
'Official Beer of the NFL Players' falls flat legally,"
according to Larry Neumeister of the AP. The NFL calls the
claim "both literally false and a violation of the NFL's
exclusive trademark rights." The suit names the NFLPA as a
defendant and accuses Coors of a plan to promote its product
by putting its slogan on signs, posters and inflatable
footballs to be passed out at the end of games this fall.
The suit seeks unspecified damages as well as "a recall of
any products infringing on the NFL's trademarks." Coors
officials said it was too early to comment and NFLPA execs
couldn't be reached by the AP nor by Neumeister (AP, 6/26).
