DANGER IS HIS MIDDLE NAME: BAFFERT SET TO STAR IN NTRA SPOOF

Fox's telecast of Sunday's NTRA Sempra Hollywood Gold
Cup will feature a spoof of "Austin Powers: The Spy Who
Shagged Me," starring trainer Bob Baffert. During the
show's opening segment, Baffert will be seen dressed as both
Powers and "Dr. Evil." Baffert "schemes to develop the
perfect horse to win Sunday's race" searching for a rider
while posing as "Dr. Evil" (NTRA). The NTRA takes out a
four-page special in today's USA TODAY promoting tonight's
All-Star Jockey Championship on ESPN2 (THE DAILY).
NTRA DEAL: The NTRA and the 1,200-member Jockeys' Guild
have reached a licensing and merchandising rights deal that
will "allow the NTRA to use jockey images on apparel it
sells," according to Matt Hegarty of the DAILY RACING FORM.
The deal covers Jockeys' Guild members, which includes "many
of the most prominent jockeys" in North America, but
"several top riders" do not belong to the organization,
meaning that the NTRA will "have to execute separate" deals
with them (DAILY RACING FORM, 6/24).
