FRANCHISE NOTES

Mutiny GM Nick Sakiewicz denied local rumors that the
     franchise's potential new investor/operator is Revolution &
Clash Operator Robert Kraft. Sakiewicz added that the team
"needs ticket sales more than the money an investor/operator
might spend on the club" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 6/24)....ECHL
"sources said Greensboro will receive an expansion
franchise" for the '99-2000 season and will revive the
Monarchs nickname it had when it left the league in '95.
The team will play at the Greensboro Coliseum (ROANOKE
TIMES, 6/22)....In Toronto, Richard Griffin wrote that a
"source" said Pat Gillick was "no longer active with the
Sportsco consortium, which would indicate" that the group's
acquisition of the Blue Jays is "on the back burners for the
immediate future" (TORONTO STAR, 6/23)....Southwest Sports
Group CEO Michael Cramer said that forming an RSN "is key"
to a potential IPO, and while the Stars winning the Stanley
Cup "doesn't hurt," it "won't have a huge impact on taking
the company public" (BRIDGE NEWS, 6/23)....NL Senior VP &
Secretary Katy Feeney, on the Expos' inclusion in the 2000
NL schedule, to be submitted to the MLBPA by Thursday's
deadline: "They're on it, and [Montreal] is where the team
is at the moment. That's the current situation and that's
how we're dealing with it" (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 6/24).
