METRODOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS, BUT NOT FOR THE TWINS?

The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission (MSFC)
"unveiled renovation plans" yesterday for converting the
     Metrodome into a baseball-only stadium for $200M or a
football stadium for $160M, according to Aron Kahn of the
ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, who writes that the "refurbished
Metrodome could become the exclusive domain of one team more
cheaply than building a second new stadium." However, the
MSFC's proposal "stayed away from the issue of how to pay"
for converting the Metrodome into a baseball-only stadium by
     2007 or a football-only stadium by 2005. Despite the
renovations causing "no game interruptions," the Twins
"immediately panned the baseball option," while the Vikings
have "reserved judgement" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 6/17).
Twins President Jerry Bell: "I told them it looks like a
good football stadium. It's just common sense that tells
you it's easier to make what already is a football stadium
into a better football stadium" (STAR TRIBUNE, 6/17).
