THINGS LOOKING IFF-Y IN DENVER: CA-based attorney Bill
Tatham is "listed as an owner" of the Int'l Football
Federation's Denver franchise, but he said that "he will not
join the IFF unless the league gets" a TV contract that
"ensures enough years of stability." Tatham: "If it was up
to me, no announcement about the league would have been made
until we had a television contract" (ROCKY MTN NEWS, 6/15).
MORE NOTES: The IBL will hold a press conference
Thursday to announce the placement of a team in Las Vegas,
and discuss its team name, ownership, coaching staff and a
possible venue. In Las Vegas, Steve Carp wrote that Sega
Gaming President & CEO Doug Sanderson will be a partner in
the team (LAS VEGAS SUN, 6/14)....Former NBA coach Allan
Bristow was named head coach of the IBL Richmond Rhythm
(RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 6/15)....The Single A NY-Penn
League Staten Island Yankees' franchise value has
"skyrocketed" in worth to "more than" $2M, up from $80,000
in '85, due to a new $30M state-of-the-art harborside
ballpark the city "has promised to build the team." The
S.I. Yankees will "probably" sell the naming rights to the
facility for "at least" $1.5M over 15 years, comparable to
deals "other A-League teams around the country" have
brokered (N.Y. POST, 6/13)....In Tampa, WDAE-AM is running a
contest where the listener who picks the next Devil Rays
player to go on the disabled list wins a trip to Durham,
N.C., home of the Devil Rays' AAA team. The station says it
has received more than 200 entries by fax -- "most of which
