STAIRWAY TO LEVIN: GILLETTE FLOATED AS POSSIBLE WBL SPONSOR

FL-based attorney Fred Levin, who has proposed a league
t consolidate boxing called the World Boxing League (WBL),
said, "I've got some leading sports figures and business
people interested in being stockholders, and what we want to
do is get a commissioner who everybody in boxing would
respect as a person of integrity." Levin tells Ron Borges
of the BOSTON GLOBE that he wants one title sponsor to "put
up around" $3M a year for several years. Levin: "Because of
its long history in boxing, Gillette is a natural. It's a
credible brand name that would distinguish its champions
from the rest. ... They'd get the naming rights to the belts
and the peripheral marketing tools like the ring mat for 40
or 50 title fights a year. And boxing is an international
business so we're not just talking about brand exposure in
the U.S." (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/13). Levin said he's got "the
answer. I just need that sponsor" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 6/12).
