Boston Mayor Thomas Menino met with members of Save
Fenway Park yesterday and "pledged to help the group find an
accounting firm to provide a cost estimate for their
proposed renovation" plan, according to Meg Vaillancourt of
the BOSTON GLOBE. Menino's offer "provides a big boost" to
the group because it "needs to develop a cost estimate if
its proposal is to be taken seriously." Menino, who had
previously been opposed to renovating Fenway because he
thought it wasn't "economically justified," said he was
"impressed with Save Fenway's commitment and design efforts"
(BOSTON GLOBE, 6/11). Meanwhile, Red Sox execs presented
their plan for a new ballpark to state lawmakers yesterday
and gave them a tour of Fenway Park "with its deteriorating
concrete and leaky tunnels." The team made a similar
presentation to MA House Speaker Thomas Finneran last week
(BOSTON HERALD, 6/11). Also in Boston, Fee & Raposa write
that Red Sox CEO John Harrington has invited more than 40
state lawmakers, business execs and community leaders on a
trip on the team plane to Camden Yards to see the Red Sox-
Orioles game on June 24. The group will tour the park and
meet with the MD Stadium Authority (BOSTON HERALD, 6/11).
