FRANCHISE NOTES

SI's Jackie MacMullan writes that former Hornets
President & GM Carl Scheer has "stepped forward" in bidding
to become a partner with Hornets Owner George Shinn (SI,
5/31 issue)....In Milwaukee, Michael Hunt cited a source who
reported that MSG President Dave Checketts met again with
former Bulls coach Phil Jackson at a midtown Manhattan hotel
Wednesday (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/28)....In Tampa, Roy Cummings
writes that the Lightning "have steadfastly refused" to
offer a player as part of a compensation package that would
bring Senators GM Rick Dudley to the Lightning as President
& GM (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 5/28)....In Detroit, Drew Sharp writes
that Tigers Owner Mike Ilitch's "legacy is on the line" with
the new Comerica Park. Sharp: "Nothing would be more
embarrassing here than having a sparkling new stadium half-
empty next season" (FREE PRESS, 5/28)....In Toronto, Frank
Zicarelli reports that the Raptors are raising the price of
some tickets, but "the good news is that many of the NBA
club's new ticket prices will remain unchanged." The team
will implement a "modest" 5.8% increase in "silver" and
"red" sections between the baskets, but 70% of the team's
seats "will stay at last year's levels." The team will also
continue with C$10 single-game tickets (TORONTO SUN, 5/28).
