MARLINS FIGHT BACK, FILE COUNTERSUIT AGAINST RADIO AFFIL

The Marlins have filed a countersuit against radio
affil WQAM, five months after the station first sued the
team, according to Clark Spencer of the MIAMI HERALD. The
team's suit, filed in Dade County Circuit Court, alleges
that WQAM has "withheld" $1.9M in rights fees. The suit
also claims that WQAM "owes" the Marlins $200,000 "for not
finding a station to carry Marlins games in Jacksonville."
Although the lawsuit was filed by the team, the money being
sought "would be owed" to former Owner Wayne Huizenga.
Marlins Owner John Henry "considered moving games off WQAM
this season but decided to stick with the station." WQAM,
which is in the third year of a five-year, $15M deal, says
that it wants to keep Marlins games and claims that it has
not withheld any payments this season (MIAMI HERALD, 5/26).
