FRANCHISE NOTES

In Indianapolis, Mike Chappell writes that Edgerrin
James is "still considering" his options" on hiring an
agent, and "a decision probably [will] be made within the
next few weeks." The candidates include Tom Condon, Leigh
Steinberg, Steve Zucker, Eugene Parker and Tank Black.
James' advisor Tyrone Williams said that whichever agent is
selected will be paid a flat fee rather than the usual 3%
fee (STAR-NEWS, 5/25)....Magic coach Chuck Daly, who
resigned yesterday, will earn $250,000 as a consultant to
the team next season. He is also "expected" to return to TV
broadcasting (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 5/25)....David Falk, on
Michael Jordan's pursuit of the Hornets: "I think it is
pretty much a dead issue, but if [George Shinn] wanted to
contact Michael, I am sure he would listen. Everyone was
reaching the conclusion that this was a negotiating ploy (by
Jordan). But it simply was a final answer" (CHICAGO
TRIBUNE, 5/25)....Red Sox CEO John Harrington, on Forbes'
MLB team valuations: "They don't know what they are talking
about. A couple of times a year these business magazines
come up with these numbers and what they have is ridiculous.
No one should pay any attention to them" (BOS. GLOBE, 5/22).
