LEAGUE NOTES

          A new professional outdoor lacrosse league, Major
     League Lacrosse, will be announced at a press conference on
     Monday at the All Star Cafe in N.Y.  The league is scheduled
     to debut next summer (THE DAILY)....In Chicago, Michael
     Hirsley examines the dual ownership of MLS teams, most
     notably by the Fire, Galaxy and Rapids Investor-Operator
     Philip Anschutz (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/21)....MLB sent memos to
     all 30 teams asking uniformed personnel to "refrain from
     tossing balls into the stands."  MLB spokesperson Pat
     Courtney: "It's not about baseballs, it's about fans falling
     or getting knocked over" (USA TODAY, 5/21).
