PAIN RELIEF: ADVIL TO SIGN ON AS WESTERN OPEN TITLE SPONSOR

A "source close" to the PGA Tour's Western Open said
that Advil "will be named the new sponsor" of the event at a
news conference this morning, according to Greg Couch of the
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Motorola ends its event sponsorship
after this year, and sources said Tournament Dir Greg
McLaughlin has been "rejected by at least" 80 potential
sponsors and had "considered trying to line up" several mid-
level sponsors instead of one title sponsor. McLaughlin
"didn't return" calls yesterday on the Advil deal (CHICAGO
SUN-TIMES, 5/20). Also in Chicago, Ed Sherman writes that
the "expectation is that Advil won't" assume the full title
of the event, but it "could happen in future years if it
wants to maximize its exposure" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 5/20).
The DAILY SOUTHTOWN's Tim Cronin reports that Advil "will
pay some" $4M for the title deal (DAILY SOUTHTOWN, 5/20).
