A CONVERSE BRIEF: UNDERWEAR, KIDS APPAREL LICENSEES INKED
Published May 13, 1999
Converse has signed a licensing deal with American
Fashion Products to produce, market and distribute a line of
men's sports underwear and related products nationwide. The
line, called "Converse Sports Underwear," will feature the
Converse Chuck Taylor logo and will retail from $6-35
(Converse). The line is currently available in Europe and
will roll out in the U.S. this summer (AD AGE, 5/12).
WON'T WIN AN OSCAR: At a book signing at the NBA Store
yesterday, Oscar Robertson noted that "not so long ago" he
turned down Converse when they wanted to sign him to an
endorsement deal. Robertson: "When I was playing
basketball, Converse was out there with a lot of white
athletes, wanting them to wear their shoes. They never came
to Oscar Robertson" (Kristie Ackert, N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/13).
