SPENT THE WHOLE NIGHT RUNNING: USATF NAMES SITES FOR SERIES

          USATF "announced the sites" of the Golden Spike Tour, a
     five-meet outdoor series that will be carried on national TV
     each weekend from this Saturday through the end of June,
     according to Ron Reid of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER.  The
     series will begin and end in OR, launching Saturday with the
     adidas OR Track Classic in Portland, and ending with the
     U.S. national championships in Eugene, June 24-27.  Other
     events are the U.S. Open at Southern IL Univ. on May 22, the
     TFA Pro Championships on Long Island on June 6 and the
     Pontiac Grand Prix Invitational in Raleigh, NC, on June 12.
     USATF and five sponsors will spend more than $3M on the
     events (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 5/13).  In Boston, Barbara
     Huebner reports that CBS will broadcast the adidas and
     Pontiac events, while ESPN has the U.S Open, the TFA and the
     June national championship (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/13).
