Seattle's Safeco Field will "give birth" to the first
fully integrated network of scoreboards, part of a $7.7M
Daktronics system that will feature a main scoreboard, which
will "tower over center field and be about as wide as two
basketball courts," according to Angelo Bruscas of the
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. The main board will include a
ProStar video screen with the latest in LED technology. The
video display will contain more than 1.6 million LEDs "to
create an image far brighter and with more vivid colors"
than old displays. Daktronics Marketing Sales Manager Mart
Steinkamp: "There's no company quite like ours that can
design and build the whole system, and that's really why the
Mariners chose us." In addition to the main scoreboard, the
system includes an out-of-town scoreboard in left field.
Mariners President Chuck Armstrong: "We can even split the
screen and carry live satellite feeds of exciting events
around baseball." Two play-by-play displays will be along
the first and third base lines, and four auxiliary displays
will have additional details like player at-bats and pitch
speed and type (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 5/11).
