VISION QUEST: SPORTVISION HAS TV EXECUTIVES GLOWING

SporTVision, the new, high-tech company which possesses
"new technology to improve sports programming," like the
"alien yellow line demarcating the first down during ESPN's
(NFL) Sunday night games," is profiled by Ted Rose of
BRILL'S CONTENT. The company was founded by Stan Honey,
known for developing FoxTrax, Jerry Gepner and Bill
Squadron. CBS Sports Senior VP/Operations & Engineering Ken
Aagaard: "They are on a different plane than everybody else.
These guys are going to be doing a lot of neat stuff through
the years." Rose: "SporTVision combines technical know-how,
sports sophistication, and a hell of a Rolodex."
SporTVision also produces AirF/X, which details "the height
of a basketball player's jump." But the company "has had
little success" selling its basketball system. Gepner: "If
you can accurately measure the height of every NBA player's
jump, you create a very impressive database (with) real
value, ongoing value." SporTVision's partners imagine, "a
future in which most stadiums are equipped" with SporTVision
sensors and small cameras to "fuel" data and "enhance
production interchangeably." The company might also
"package" statistics and sell them to sports Web sites and
video game makers (BRILL'S CONTENT, 5/99 issue).
