WORKING HARD FOR THEIR MONEY: INDIANS PROXY REVEALS SALARIES

          The Indians' recent proxy filing with the SEC shows
     that Owner Richard Jacobs earned $467,424 in '98 as the
     team's Chair & CEO, according to the Cleveland PLAIN DEALER. 
     Indians Exec VP & GM John Hart earned $600,000 plus a
     $195,692 bonus, which included $100,000 for signing an
     employment agreement through 2003, with a company option for
     four additional years.  Other details show that the largest
     shareholder of Cleveland Indians Baseball Co., which had an
     IPO last June, is McDonald Investments Inc. with 13.3%.  The
     Indians paid the Richard E. Jacobs Group $267,000 last year
     for legal, accounting and administrative services and
     $506,000 in leases for four Cleveland Indians Team Shops at
     shopping malls owned by the Jacobs Group.  The Indians'
     first annual shareholders meeting will be at Jacobs Field on
     June 2 (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 4/13).
