THE CLASS OF REEBOK HIGH: COMPANY EYES DEAL WITH TX SCHOOLS

The Keller School Board (TX) is "considering an
agreement" with Reebok that would give any student
participating in sports, cheerleading or a drill team in
seventh grade or higher a 35-50% discount on Reebok athletic
shoes in exchange for allowing the company to hang banners
in the district's stadiums and gymnasiums, according to Matt
Frazier of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. Keller AD Dennis
Parker, who supports the plan: "We don't want to be known as
the Keller Reeboks. ... But today you have to watch every
penny. This is a way for us and the students to save money
and still have quality athletic gear." But Parker said that
students would not be required to wear Reeboks: "We are
going to make every effort to be as exclusive to Reebok as
we can, but ... [if] a student thinks that they need to wear
a Nike shoe to play well, then they can." Reebok "also
would underwrite the cost" of an annual spring track meet.
The deal would not include additional compensation for the
district or coaches (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 4/13).
