BULLS' LACK OF STAR APPEAL LEADS TO LOSS OF $10M IN REVENUE

The retirement of Michael Jordan and the loss of
Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman could "cost other NBA teams
nearly" $10M in lost revenue, according to Mark Brown of the
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. In less than a year the Bulls have gone
from "the toughest ticket to obtain in other NBA cities to
one of the hardest to sell." So far, the Bulls' average
road attendance has dropped from 21,970 last season to
15,190 this year, only ahead of the Hornets. The decrease
of 6,780 fans per game, projected over the Bulls' 25-game
road schedule, adds up to 169,500 less seats sold than
through the same number of games in '98, when the team sold
out at every arena in the league. The average drop of fans
per game multiplied by the NBA's $42.50 average ticket, plus
an estimated $15 expenditure per person for parking, food
     and souvenirs, results is a $9.7M loss (SUN-TIMES, 4/13).
