NO PROGRESS IN WNBA CBA TALKS, AS SIDES FAR APART ON SALARY
Published March 24, 1999
The WNBA and its players' association "failed to make
progress on issues separating them" in their CBA
negotiations, according to Scott Soshnick of BLOOMBERG NEWS.
Among the issues separating the sides are minimum salary and
the allotment of former ABL players. A source close to the
talks said that the league is "offering a minimum salary" of
$20,000, up $5,000 from last season, but the "union is
seeking" $45,000, which "represents about" a $2M difference.
The league also "wants to allow" 52 ABL players into the
league, while the union "is proposing" 24 (BLOOMBERG, 3/23).
