FRANCHISE NOTES

USA TODAY's Michael Hiestand profiles U.S. Senator and
Bucks Owner Herb Kohl (D-WI) in a Sports Cover Story.
Heistand: "With his Senate seat and ownership of a major
league franchise, Kohl alone has snared two of the most
coveted, and increasingly pricey, status symbols in America"
(USA TODAY, 3/23)....In S.F., Glenn Dickey wrote that 49ers
co-Owner Eddie DeBartolo "made himself unpopular within the
league," as his only friends among NFL owners are the
"mavericks," including Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones and Raiders
Owner Al Davis. Dickey: "More and more, it seems that
DeBartolo's quest to regain control of the 49ers is the
impossible dream, and it's his own fault" (S.F. CHRONICLE,
3/22)....DC real estate developer Douglas Jemal, who is
heading the group trying to bring an MLB team to the area,
on former Nuggets Managing Partner Bertram Lee, who has
joined his group: "We both want to see a team that is
predominantly owned by minorities and Bert Lee has the
contacts in the minority community" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/23).
