          Sabres Chair & CEO JOHN RIGAS underwent successful
     triple bypass surgery at MN's Mayo Clinic Wednesday.  Rigas
     is listed in satisfactory condition (Sabres)....TIGER WOODS,
     after winning the inaugural MARK MCCORMACK AWARD, which goes
     to the golfer who holds the No. 1 spot in the World Golf
     Rankings: "Since I'm an IMG client, just wondering if this
     knocks maybe like 1 percent off (the percentage he pays
     IMG)" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 3/18)....A $1.2M settlement
     has been agreed to in principle in the case of a woman who
     claimed she was injured by Patriots QB DREW BLEDSOE and OL
     MAX LANE at an EVERCLEAR concert at the Paradise nightclub
     in Boston in '97.  Sources said that Paradise and Everclear
     would each pay $100,000, while Bledsoe and Lane will pay the
     remaining $1M (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/19)....Vikings WR CRIS CARTER
     won the NFLPA's BYRON "WHIZZER" WHITE AWARD for his
     humanitarian efforts (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 3/19).
     ...Devil Rays P DAVE EILAND served as the "pitching double"
     for KEVIN COSTNER in the movie, "FOR LOVE OF THE GAME." 
     Eiland: "He's getting thin on top, so they cut my hair to
     look like his and used makeup to make me look a little more
     like him" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 3/19)....The law firm BOND,
     SCHOENECK & KING is profiled in the Minneapolis STAR
     TRIBUNE.  The firm is "expected" to be named as the outside
     investigator into "allegations of academic cheating" among
     Univ. of MN men's basketball players.  In MN, David Phelps:
     "Two things are certain about Bond, Schoeneck and King: The
     firm is well-known to the NCAA and its services aren't
     cheap" (STAR TRIBUNE, 3/19)....NJ Superior Court Judge
     ANDREW SMITHSON ruled yesterday that the state "failed to
     prove" that former New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority
     Chair MICHAEL FRANCIS "committed a crime when he sought
     business for his private cleaning company from developers
     with ties" to the authority, as seven of the 12 criminal
     charges against Francis were dismissed (RECORD, 3/19).
