WOOD A HEALTHY KERRY HAVE BEEN ROLLING IN THE DOUGH?
Published March 19, 1999
Cubs P Kerry Wood's elbow injury "apparently already
has cost him some off-the-field cash," according to Fred
Mitchell of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Mitchell's sources said
that AT&T Wireless "pulled the plug Wednesday on a proposed"
$69,000 deal to use Wood as a spokesperson in a program tied
to local school children. A "major car manufacturer" also
"pulled away from a deal" for Wood to appear in TV ads with
Cubs radio announcer Ron Santo, as he "will be replaced" by
Cubs reliever Terry Adams. Mitchell writes, "Wood probably
lost more than $150,000 in one day" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/19).
