DOES THE AFL FACE 1 & 10 AT THE 55 IN CFL PARTNERSHIP?

CFL President Jeff Giles met with AFL Commissioner
David Baker in Chicago, "where secret discussions were held
about the formation of a full business relationship,"
according to Marty York of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, who
writes that the two "could establish an official liaison in
which cross promotion and player exchanges would occur."
Giles approached Baker because the CFL learned "the
increasingly popular Arena League intends to expand into
Canada at some point." Giles, on the AFL: "[It's] an
extremely successful league, and it is growing constantly.
They're getting franchise fees of $5-million to $6-million."
Giles added that the CFL has "rejected" the idea of a
partnership with the Indoor Football League and "are now
fully focused" on the AFL (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 3/17).
