RATINGS NEWS & NOTES: WTA TENNIS HAS GAMES WITHOUT FRONTIERS

          The Venus Williams-Steffi Graf semifinal match at the
     Faber Grand Prix last week in Hannover, Germany, topped the
     viewership record in Germany for a women's tennis match with
     3.77 million viewers and earned a 22.4% market share.  The
     Jana Novotna-Williams final became the second highest
     women's rated match with 2.91 million viewers (WTA Tour).
     ...BLOOMBERG NEWS reports that ESPN's NHL season average
     rating of 0.62 is down 9% from last season's average of
     0.68.  NHL ratings for ESPN2 have dropped 16% from 0.38 to
     0.32 (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 2/22)....Sunday's "NBA on NBC"
     tripleheader earned a 5.1/11 Nielsen overnight average, with
     the primetime Lakers-Sonics games earning a 6.1/11 (#30).
