A TAMPA TRIBUNE poll shows that 51% of the city's
voters support efforts to bring the 2012 Olympics to the
Tampa Bay area, as compared to 31% who oppose the idea and
18% who did not respond. The numbers, "while not an
overwhelming show of support, were hailed by the head of the
local bid committee as a good start." The survey of 409
voters was conducted from February 6-17 by the FL Research
Group, an "independent research arm of the Tribune." It has
a margin of error of +/- 4.9% (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 2/23)....IOC
exec Kevan Gosper, on outspoken John Hancock Mutual Life
Insurance President David D'Alessandro: "I'm disappointed he
should be debating this in public as if he is the conscience

Santander, who was implicated in the bribery scandal,
resigned (Mult., 2/23)....The CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR's
Daniel Wood writes under the header, "Athletes Fret Over The
Games." Olympians are "expressing anger and feelings of
betrayal over a system they say gives money and preferred
treatment to IOC officials and their families while it
