Expos President and General Partner Claude Brochu, who
has not spoken publicly since last October, "will finally
tell the other side of the saga that has been swirling
around the team's ownership for over a year," according to
Stephanie Myles of the Montreal GAZETTE. Brochu, who is
with the team in FL for spring training: "I don't want to do
this off the cuff. There were so many accusations and so
many things that were said that were so unfortunate, and
that were wrong, I think I just have to take the time.
Let's put it all together, let's identify what was said, how
it was said, and let me react accordingly." Brochu, on why
he has not made any public comments during the ownership
group's 150-day period to find new investors: "I didn't want
to get in the way of the limited partners as they were
trying to build their case, and their business plan. Maybe
I'll see if I can correct things" (GAZETTE, 2/23).
REQUEST DENIED? USA TODAY's Hal Bodley reports that MLB
may "reject" the Expos consortium's request to put together
a new financial plan for the team. A rejection "could
trigger an Expos sale and possible move" (USA TODAY, 2/23).
