PANTHERS SEEK $30M CASH INFUSION FROM SHAREHOLDERS FOR DEBT

Florida Panthers Holdings (FPH) wants shareholders to
invest $30M in FPH that "would go toward paying off debt
from hotels the company acquired as it has evolved from a
sports franchise into a resort owner and operator,"
according to Cindy Krischer Goodman of the MIAMI HERALD.
FPH proposed an offering "that would allow stockholders to
purchase one additional share in the company for every 10
shares they now own." The price would be $10.25 a share, a
"minimal discount" to the $10.50 price that shares closed at
yesterday. FPH's most recent fund-raising effort "comes on
the heels of a private placement last week" in which FPH
raised $40M from the sale of 4 million shares to
institutional investors. Panthers spokesperson Stan Smith
said that the company is targeting current shareholders to
raise money because it is "less dilutive" than issuing
shares on the open market. The company reported record
operating results of $9M for the quarter ended December 31,
compared with $1.2M in '97 (MIAMI HERALD, 2/17).
