After a "loophole" in his Fox contract became apparent,
Jerry Glanville agreed to join CBS's "The NFL Today" pregame
show, according to USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke. Glanville's
'98 contract with Fox, which had been cut from $350,000 to
$200,000 as "part of cost-cutting," had reportedly "not been
signed." But on Tuesday, Fox Sports Senior VP/Media
Relations Vince Wladika "insisted" that Fox has a contract
with Glanville. Glanville has reportedly agreed to a three-
year deal worth less than $400,000 per year and will join
Jim Nantz and Craig James in CBS's studio. Randy Cross "is
expected" to be added to the studio team as well, while
Brent Jones will become a game analyst and Marcus Allen will
assume a "feature reporter" role. Mike Lombardi "will
remain" as CBS's NFL "insider" (USA TODAY, 2/10). In
Atlanta, Prentis Rogers writes that Glanville will remain
with HBO's "Inside the NFL" (ATL. CONSTITUTION, 2/10).
EVERYBODY'S GOT SOME TALENT: In N.Y., Bob Raissman
reports that Tim McCarver has been hired by WNYW-Fox as an
analyst for the network's Yankees games. Raissman calls the
signing "a major coup" for Fox and Yankees Owner George
Steinbrenner, while "an embarrassment" to the Mets.
McCarver will join Bobby Murcer in the booth (N.Y. DAILY
NEWS, 2/10). In N.Y., Steve Zipay reports that the deal was
delayed while the Yankees seek substitutes for McCarver, who
also does Fox's Saturday MLB games. Fox Sports "reportedly"
will make adjustments to accommodate WNYW (NEWSDAY, 2/10).
