REPORT OUT OF TAMPA HAS ART WILLIAMS THINKING SALE

Lightning Owner Art Williams said he will sell the team
and rights to the Ice Palace unless he can find a partner by
the end of the season, according to Ira Kaufman of the TAMPA
TRIBUNE. Williams "expressed confidence he can secure a
partner," and said that one Tampa Bay individual has made a
"50-50" proposition. An alternative possibility "involves
sharing ownership with two out-of-town groups." Williams:
"I would still have a sizable investment in that scenario."
But one source close to the talks said Williams "already has
decided to pull out" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 2/10). Under the
header, "Williams Can't Bail Out Now," Roy Cummings writes
that "thanks to Williams, the Lightning finally are on the
road to respectability ... [among] other owners and GMs,"
and if Williams has "patience ... the Lightning will grow up
to be big and strong" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 2/10).
