          The community-owned CFL Edmonton Eskimos have purchased
     the AAA Trappers for C$8M from the Alberta Treasury
     Branches.  Of the sale price, C$2M will come from the
     Eskimos, C$3M from a bank loan and C$3M from "adjustments
     and assumption of certain liabilities."  The deal still must
     be approved by Eskimos shareholders and the PCL (EDMONTON
     JOURNAL, 1/27)....After 14,000 attended the Spurs-Rockets
     free exhibition game last night at the Compaq Center, Glenn
     Rogers writes, "Angry fans? What angry fans?"  Rogers:
     "Predictions of fans upset at greedy athletes went by the
     boards.  The gathering seemed ecstatic that the game was
     back" (S.A. EXPRESS-NEWS, 1/27)....In San Jose, the Clash
     has begun moving its headquarters into 8,600 square feet of
     office space outside the city's core, near the San Tomas
     Expressway.  The team will also operate a retail store
     offering tickets and merchandise on the first floor of the
     three-story building (S.J. BUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/25)....John
     Elway responded to Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen's comments that
     he would be interested in including Elway in the team's
     ownership group once he retires: "That's the first I've
     heard of it, so it's not something that I've been offered or
     that we've talked about" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 1/27).

Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
