BROADCAST NEWS: TAR HEEL COACHES SIGN TV, RADIO SHOW DEALS

          Univ. of North Carolina basketball coach Bill Guthridge
     and football coach Carl Torbush signed "personal-services
     contracts" with VilCom Sports, a Chapel Hill-based company
     that will produce weekly radio and TV shows with the two
     coaches, according to Tim Peeler of the Greensboro NEWS &
     RECORD.  Guthridge's four-year deal with VilCom is worth
     $1.2M, and will pay him $285,000 this year, with a $10,000
     raise each additional year of the contract.  The VilCom
     package pushes Guthridge's total coaching salary from a base
     of $155,000 to over $1M per year when bonuses and incentives
     are figured in.  Torbush's VilCom deal is for $800,000 over
     four years and begins with $185,000 for this year, with a
     $10,000 increase after each year of the contract.  Torbush's
     entire annual salary will now be around $500,000, up from a
     base of $135,000.  Guthridge will participate in 21 half-
     hour TV programs, 21 weekly radio call-in shows and 95 five-
     minute daily radio segments.  Torbush's package includes 14
     TV shows, 14 weekly radio call-in shows and 75 five-minute
     daily radio segments.  VilCom is in the first year of a
     five-year, $10M contract to produce multimedia broadcasts
     for the UNC Athletics Department (NEWS & RECORD, 1/22).
