THE TWO FACES OF TIME: MAGAZINE OPTS FOR LOCAL SPORTS COVERS

Time magazine opted to publish two different covers of
the same issue twice this year, according to Rifka Rosenwein
of BRILL'S CONTENT, who reports that the November 2 issue
featured author Tom Wolfe nationally, while NYC newsstands
offered the World Series Champion Yankees on the cover.
Time "did see a profit" for its Yankees' regional issue, as
it sold 50,000 copies, compared to the average 10,000-15,000
sold in the region (BRILL'S CONTENT, 2/99 issue).
TIME HAS MONEY ON IT'S SIDE: MEDIAWEEK reports that a
$28M increase in ad revenue for Time helped displace SI from
second place on the annual revenue ranking list of the
Publishers Information Bureau (PIB). Time rang up $561.6M
in ad revenue while SI received $555M (MEDIAWEEK, 1/18).
SI GETS REAL ABOUT SPORT: SI and HBO have agreed to
collaborate on HBO's "Real Sports" on a regular basis. The
"Real Sports"/SI pieces, which will use both SI editors and
writers as contributors, will begin airing this month (SI).
