COOL CATS: PUMA TO USE OSCAR, SERENA AND OTHERS IN CAMPAIGN

Puma is "crafting" an ad campaign that "will showcase
shoes, along with licensed and branded apparel, with a more
lighthearted approach" around WBC super lightweight champ
Oscar De La Hoya, tennis player Serena Williams, Raptors
rookie G Vince Carter, Nigerian soccer player Jay-Jay Okocha
and Kenyan runners, according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK.
Puma North America President Jim Gorman, who said that his
company will introduce a De La Hoya signature product next
year: "It's not a tagline, but we are calling the campaign,
'The pursuit of fun.'" Lefton writes that Puma "is
positioning itself to retailers as the next Adidas"
(BRANDWEEK, 1/11). The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Josh
Gotthelf reports that De La Hoya will wear a Puma model shoe
"designed specifically for him" during his February 13 fight
against Ike Quartey (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/11 issue).
