FRANCHISE NOTES

MLB: A group that includes prospective Redskins co-
Owner Howard Milstein and Toronto developer Edward Cogan
"has teamed up to bid" for SkyDome and the Blue Jays (Gayle
MacDonald, Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 1/12)....In Cincinnati,
Geoff Hobson reports that Reds CEO Marge Schott "isn't
expected" to accept a $55M cash bid for all of her 6.5
shares from DC-based business exec Jon Ledecky, an offer
that "expires Friday" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 1/12).
NFL: In resigning after ten years as coach of the
Chiefs yesterday, Marty Schottenheimer said, "There have
been rumors during this last season regarding my marriage
and my personal life. These rumors are absolutely false and
untrue." In K.C., Jeffrey Flanagan writes that while the
"rumors swept through the city over the last year," there
was one problem, "the lack of facts or evidence" (K.C. STAR,
1/12)...The Jets' success this year has merchandise "blowing
out of the store" in N.Y., according to the N.Y. Manager of
The Sports Authority Carlton Murray. Murray: "Jets jerseys
are doing very, very well" (N.Y. POST, 1/12). But Richard
Sandomir writes that the Jets' franchise value has not
"soared" much despite the team's strong season. Forbes'
Editor Michael Ozanian, who estimates the Jets' franchise
value at $259M, said, "The Jets' stadium economics is in the
lower third of the league. They won't get much better"
(N.Y. TIMES, 1/12)...In Detroit, Mike O'Hara reports that
the Lions' "courtship" of Fox announcer Matt Millen "ended
abruptly ... when Millen rejected the team's offer of its
top front-office position" (DETROIT NEWS, 1/12).
