CHIP SHOTS: TAYLOR MADE HAS A BALL; MCCARRON INKS W/ORLIMAR

Taylor Made debuted its new golf ball, a Taylor Made
prototype (TM-07), during the Mercedes Championships held in
Hawaii this past weekend, according to GOLFWEB. Lee Janzen
and John Cook used the ball, which is made from a "patented
formulation and an exclusive copolymer that [Taylor Made
claims] is both soft and resilient" (GOLFWEB, 1/9).
GREAT SCOTT, ORLIMAR! Scott McCarron signed a three-
year deal to play Orlimar TriMetals and serve as a
spokesperson for CA-based Orlimar Golf Company (Orlimar).
HOT MARKET: On ABC's "20/20" Friday, Bill Ritter
examined a "hot, new trend in crime: stealing premium golf
clubs from sporting goods stores." Ritter reported that
$128M worth of golf clubs were stolen in '98, with Callaway
drivers often a target of thieves. Ritter: "Crooks love
these Callaways, not just because they're the most popular,
but because, unlike other Titanium clubs, there are no
serial numbers printed on the head" ("20/20," ABC, 1/8).
