THE LEADERLESS GAMES: NAMES FLOATED AS POSSIBLE SUCCESSORS

          The SLOC "may first hire a No. 2 executive --
     preferably someone with a background in sports -- before
     searching for a new top executive," according to Guy Boulton
     of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. Hiring a COO first would "give
     the board more leeway" in finding a new CEO. SLOC's board
     has set no timetable for the search (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE,
     1/9). In looking to replace SLOC President & CEO Frank
     Joklik, UT Gov. Mike Leavitt and House Speaker Marty
     Stephens said the position should be filled by a Utahn.
     Joklik will stay on as President & CEO until a new president
     is named. The SLOC will also create a new COO position
     (DESERET NEWS, 1/9). In Colorado Springs, Mike Spence:
     "It's highly likely the USOC will choose Johnson's
     replacement, who will become CEO. That would allow the USOC
     to hire a sports-savvy individual while at the same time
     giving it more control over SLOC's operation." Spence put
     USA Hockey Exec Dir Dave Ogrean as the "front-runner"
     (GAZETTE-TELEGRAPH, 1/10).  In N.Y., Jere Longman writes
     that Canadian Roger Jackson "has emerged as a possible
     interim" COO (N.Y. TIMES, 1/11). USA TODAY's Dodd & Raboin
     report that the SLOC Board of Trustees will meet Thursday to
     "map the transition and discuss restructuring its
     management" (USA TODAY, 1/11). Among names mentioned to
     replace Joklik as CEO include: MSG President Dave Checketts;
     Huntsman Chemical Corp. Vice Chair Jon Huntsman, Jr.;
     Marriott Corp.'s Bill Marriott; Former National Security
     Advisor Brent Scowcroft; Former Univ. of UT President David
     Gardner and former Olympic steeplechaser Henry Marsh (N.Y.
     TIMES, 1/9). Former U.S. Senator Jake Garn and Jazz Owner
     Larry Miller are also mentioned (USA TODAY, 1/11).
