David Falk said there was "no need" for him to be in
N.Y. last week during the culmination of the NBA lockout,
according to Stephen Smith of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER.
Falk: "It's amazing, because I've been blamed for so long
for having so much to do with ruining the NBA's party with
its players, and (the union has not) even let me in the
building." More Falk: "Me? I'm a small pawn in all of
this. I would have liked to have been bigger, but it was
never, ever that way. ... So I guess that means I'm the big
loser. But it's not that way at all. Look at what I've
done with my company and you'll understand that while the
deal isn't great for me, it doesn't hurt me as much as
people would think." Smith reported that since Falk sold
FAME to SFX Entertainment last year, he is in a position to
do player contracts "for free" and only take a percentage of
a player's endorsement deal (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/9).
FALKISMS: In Detroit, Chris McCosky reported that Falk
"tried to sell his clients" on a plan for a new pro league
by offering them franchises (DETROIT NEWS, 1/10).
