INDIANAPOLIS PHOTO SPEEDWAY: LARGE SCREENS TO BE INSTALLED

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) is buying seven
"large" TV screens from SD-based Daktronics Inc. that will
be installed for next year's Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard
400, according to Bill Koenig of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS.
IMS will pay "about" $8M for the screens, which will allow
spectators to see action around the 2.5-mile track. During
the summer, IMS "experimented" with two large screens placed
at the oval's north and south ends. All of the new screens
-- four of which will measure 22' by 29' and the others 19'
by 25' -- will display live action, instant replays and
commercials (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 12/17). IMS President
& CEO Tony George said that more large-screen displays "will
be purchased and installed" after the completion of a new
Master Control Tower and other construction in 2000 (IMS).
