MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          ESPN airs a special "Outside the Lines: The World of
     the Gay Athlete" tonight at 7:30pm ET.  Included is a
     segment with agent Leigh Steinberg saying that he had to
     "confer" with his client, 49ers QB Steve Young, before Young
     "accepted a Visa commercial in which [he] gives receiver
     Jerry Rice a bouquet of flowers and another ... in which ...
     [he] places his coat over Rice's shoulders."  ESPN's Bob
     Ley: "Leigh mentioned the rumors and said that he and Steve
     had to talk about whether to do the Visa spot. ... It was
     definitely a matter of discussion before going ahead with
     the campaign" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 12/16)....Montreal-based
     communications group Teleglobe is "negotiating a sponsorship
     contract" worth an estimated C$110M with the British
     American Racing team, which "features" Jacques Villeneuve as
     its lead driver (CP, 12/16)....Jack Nicklaus' Golden Bear
     Golf has agreed to build golf courses with IA-based
     construction firm The Weitz Company.  The "first project
     will be" the Bear's Club, a 320-acre course in North Palm
     Beach, FL, that Nicklaus is designing (P.B. POST, 12/15).
