WILL CIVIC STADIUM SOON HOST AN MLS TEAM? PFE GETS SUPPORT

A six-member Portland City Committee overseeing the
renovation of Civic Stadium said that it would "try to work"
with Portland Family Entertainment (PFE), a group led by
former Blazers President Marshall Glickman, to renovate the
facility, according to Ken Wheeler of the Portland
OREGONIAN. PFE, which is looking to bring an MLS team to
Portland, topped an offer by the CS Group, which had hopes
of luring an MLB team to the city. However, the committee's
written report stated that neither proposal offered "a
sufficient level of private investment to justify
transferring the operation of Civic Stadium to a private
group." The committee's recommendation now goes to Portland
Mayor Vera Katz and Metropolitan-Exposition Recreation
Commission Chair Gary Conkling (Portland OREGONIAN, 12/11).
