REACH OUT AND HIP CHECK SOMEONE: AT&T RUNS HOCKEY PROMO

AT&T Canada "will give financial rewards" to Canada's
minor hockey teams in exchange for finding long-distance
customers, according to Martin Cleary of the OTTAWA CITIZEN.
A team will receive C$500 for every 15 customers it signs up
for AT&T long distance services, up to a maximum of C$7,000
or 210 customers. The company will send "a portion" of the
money up front, with the remainder to be sent if the
subscribers are still with AT&T after three months. The
hockey associations can also receive a "small" commission by
participating in the promotion. AT&T Canada spokesperson
Eva Innes: "We want to find innovative ways to reach our
customers." Innes said that she "expects parents, not
players" to canvass for subscribers (OTTAWA CITIZEN, 11/4).
