The Univ. of MD has agreed to a three-year deal with First National Bank of MD worth "slightly more than" $900,000, according to Mark Asher of the WASHINGTON POST. The agreement, the "largest" sponsorship deal ever by MD's athletic department, "will place two commercial logos in opposite corners of the basketball court at Cole Field House." Although a contract "has yet to be signed," Univ. of MD AD Debbie Yow said the bank's signage would begin appearing on the court for the team's November 14 home opener against Western Carolina. FNB VP/Corporate Communications Reese Nank said the logo, which will include the state flag, is "the centerpiece" of the deal. The money from the deal "will help" MD's athletic department offset an anticipated $200,000 to $250,000 shortfall in projected football ticket sales this season. MD joins GA Tech as the only schools in the ACC to sell the placing of a logo on their basketball courts (WASHINGTON POST, 10/31).
