Chris Myers, a 10-year ESPN veteran, was introduced
yesterday as the newest member of Fox Sports Net. Myers,
who will anchor "Fox Sports News" and host "Goin' Deep,"
"jabbed a bit" at ESPN during his FSN press conference.
Myers: "I sensed an attitude at ESPN that we're all
replaceable. If they're not careful, they could be replaced
as the sports news leader" (Richard Sandomir, N.Y. TIMES,
11/13). More Myers: "It was a great 10 years at ESPN, but I
missed doing nightly highlights and I will get to do other
things at Fox like developing my own show. I would have
liked Up Close to be an hour, and live, with viewer phone
calls, but ESPN had other priorities" (MIAMI HERALD, 11/13).
Myers: "Believe me, there are a lot of people at ESPN right
now who would like to come to Fox. They spend way too much
time at ESPN making it perfectly clear to all employees that
you're totally replaceable" (SUN-TIMES, 11/13). Myers may
start in late December/early January (CIN. ENQUIRER, 11/13).
GOOD MOVE: In L.A., Tom Hoffarth writes that with the
hiring of Keith Olbermann, Fox "finally" gets "a high-
profile anchor" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 11/13). But in Detroit,
Mitch Albom writes, "All the fuss over Keith Olbermann going
to Fox Sports Net -- What will ESPN do? How will
'SportsCenter' react? -- leads me to this dumb question:
When did we elevate the simple task of talking over sports
footage into some kind of art form?" (FREE PRESS, 11/13).
