KANSAS CITY, HERE I COME! PRENTICE/ROYALS CLOSER TO DEAL?

Miles Prentice, who's been "working for months to buy"
the Royals, has "signed up the local investors he needs to
close the deal," according to Charles Crumpley of the K.C.
STAR. Sources said that Prentice's group "easily exceeds"
the 50% local-money threshold required by Royals directors.
The directors "could meet soon, possibly today" to decide
whether to sell the team to Prentice's group. Other
sources, however, said that negotiations "hit a potentially
serious snag" over the issue of stadium improvements at
Kauffman Stadium, as sources said that Prentice wants about
$70M worth of upgrades, which is "along the lines of what
the Royals outlined this year and beyond" the $11M project
already underway. But one source said, "I don't see this
deal (falling apart) because of that" (K.C. STAR, 11/13).
