LASTMAN STANDING: TORONTO MAYOR THREATENS TO SEIZE SKYDOME

          Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman on Thursday "threatened to
     seize the SkyDome if owners of the money-losing venue don't
     pay their taxes," according to Geoff Baker of the TORONTO
     STAR.  The stadium owes "more than" C$1.2M in municipal
     taxes.  Lastman, who said SkyDome's owners "should not get
     special treatment" if they do not pay their taxes: "There's
     no free ride for anybody.  We are not going to fund sports
     teams and we haven't the money to fund sports facilities." 
     More Lastman: "At the end of the time, we just take it over,
     the same as any house" (TORONTO STAR, 11/13). Lastman
     "warned" that the city will assess SkyDome with a 15% annual
     interest charge on all unpaid taxes (TORONTO SUN, 11/13).
